When I gave birth to my first baby I used tucks pads and oh boy they sure helped to give me some relief. I had been on my journey to cleaner living for awhile but I didn’t know then what I know now. When I was pregnant with the twins I started preparing my postpartum care list and was shocked to see the ingredients in a product that goes next to our genitalia.
🤯 Genitalia has shown to have a 100% absorption rate so its super important for us to use clean products such as pads, tampons, condoms, soap, you name it if it goes near there we need to me conscious of the ingredients.
So let’s take a look at the ingredients in👇
🔻Tucks Pads
Witch Hazel (50% v/v). Inactive Ingredients: Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Glycerin, Methylparaben, Propylene Glycol, Propylparaben, Purified Water, Sodium Citrate.
🔻Tucks Medicated cooling pads
Water, Glycerin, Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Citric Acid, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
🔻Then I found Frida Mama Medicated Perineal pads. They seem to be a better option but I was sad to find phenoxyethanol.
Water, glycerin, alcohol, sodium lauroamphoacetate, chamomilla recutita extract, caprylic/capric triglyceride, tocopherol, phenoxyethanol, benzoic acid, dehydroacetic acid, sodium benzoate, citric acid, mentha piperita oil, menthyl lactate, sodium citrate.
So..above we saw these scary ingredients 👇
❌Parabens- Estrogen-mimicking properties, linked to breast cancer. In a study, 99% of the breast cancer tissue samples tested positive for parabens, 60% having 5 different parabens!
❌Diazolidinyl Urea – ureas can release formaldehyde and they can cause skin and eye irritation, allergic reactions, and prolonged exposure can cause reproductive effects.
❌Propylene Glycol – there is a danger of organ system toxicity, and skin irritation. Even organizations that say it’s generally safe recommend that pregnant or nursing women stay away from it altogether.
❌ Phenoxyethanol – may harm your central nervous system and cause depression, kidney damage, skin irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea and drowsiness.
❓So what’s a girl to do???

🧐After much looking around I found the best option is a good ole DIY!
